This past Wednesday the Walnut SIG met at the Clarksville Research Station for an evening all about walnuts! Burak Akyuz is a turkish grad student who is in town for the chestnut rooted cuttings workshop that happened this past weekend. Burak led an insightful talk about his work with walnut propagation in Turkey. He shared what has worked and what hasn’t and overall provided relatively detailed instruction for propagating new trees and topworking onto older trees. Those of you who have tried walnut grafting know its not the easiest feat. Hopefully with the tips Burak shared we’ll be able to increase our success rate at grafting walnuts.
