At our annual spring meeting we held the elections for new board officers since our former president, Trevor Newman, was unable to attend the fall ’16 meeting when elections are typically held. New officers have been elected for president and secretary while the other positions remain the same. Dennis Strahle, whose been our beyond-awesome secretary for many years is now the president and Terry Calhoun took over Dennis’s former role as secretory. Moving forward we are excited for the direction of the organization! We know it will be in good hands with the newly elected and current officers.
In other news, we voted on adding MNFGA— Michigan Nut & Fruit Growers Association — as an additional assumed named. This does not mean we cannot go as MNGA anymore, particularly in areas where we’re already listed as that, but it means we can use the new name in conjunction. Our goal is to not miss out on any new members who may not know we focus heavily on not only nut producing plants but also fruit producing plants.
We had two unique presentations this year— Dan Foster presented on growing figs in MI and shared mouth watering pictures of his some 130+ variety trial! Terry Calhoun, our new secretary, gave a talk about his disc golf alley crop between black walnut trees! Terry’s presentation is linked in the previous post and Dan’s can be seen by clicking the link below:
