The MNFGA 2022 Summer Meeting and Farm Tour will be on July 16, starting at noon with a potluck lunch. It will be held at Base Lake Farm, 7861 Strawberry Lake Road, Dexter, MI 48130. Bill Brinkerhoff will be our host. Bill tells us that they have 2 acres of fruit and nut trees and about 200 acres of regenerative farming with grass fed beef.
If you have attended an MNFGA Meeting in the past, you know that the potluck lunch itself is worth attending. It is a great opportunity to sample some creative and some standard dishes made from fruits and nuts grown in Michigan while chatting with familiar and new friends. If you are not a cook and want to purchase salad, rolls, cake, pie or whatever, you are most welcome to do that as well. If you are leery of the current strains of COVID lurking about, you are most welcome to bring your own lunch, or even show up about 1:15 after lunch. We want everyone to feel welcome however it best suits you. MNFGA will provide ice water and maybe coffee, but no coffee if it is predicted to be beastly hot…we are talking about Michigan weather…who knows! Please bring a chair and your own table service.
We will no doubt have a few business items to discuss and then have a short fundraising auction (trees, plants and whatever donated items people bring…it all helps keep our membership costs low ($8.00 per year…what a bargain!)).
Then, Bill will show us around the farm. Bill has been building the farm over the years and has purchased and cultivated some interesting fruits and nuts. This part will require people to be able to walk about outside. I do not know if we will be walking amongst the cowpies, but it is possible. Don’t wear your fancy dancing shoes! Hehehehehe And, if you wish, you are most welcome to hang out where we eat lunch and continue conversations with other enthusiasts. Whatever works best for you.
Thank you, Bill Brinkerhoff, for this fantastic opportunity for the meeting and farm tour!
